The final year

In late 1969 artistic differences between The Beatles had reached boiling point. George Harrison resented the lack of interest in his songs and John and Paul no longer collaborated on songs.  Tension arose over Yoko's presence in the studio, especially when John encouraged Yoko to give feedback.

In '69 they finished making the initial recordings for the songs that would become the albums Let it Be and Abbey Road.

Crazy lady

"You're not well enough for the story they've planned".
Isabella Blow

"It was not so simple, not so easy to come up with this way of living that I've had. I was given a sad life by fate, but I think I won a happy life. Not one day has passed when I didn't think of suicide, but I'm very glad to be alive now. Most people are so preoccupied with their illness, sickness, and they live a very ordinary life. I was so involved and so engrossed with painting, and knew from my childhood that it could help me to overcome unhappiness."
Yayoi Kusama

“I always wear my sweater back-to-front; it is so much more flattering.”
Diana Vreeland

"Peace. it does not mean to be in a place where there is no trouble, noise, or hard work. it means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart."
Lady Gaga

Ghost world

I love Ghost World, it is such a brilliant movie, based on an even more brilliant comic. Daniel Clowes creates a bizaare and intimate comic world where best friends look on at the world, unable to fathom how idiotic the general public can be. This translates beautifully into a film with Thora Birch and Scarlett Johansson. Take note, the outfits are incredible! A classic tale of being a misfit and 'coming of age' (ugh I hate that term) Ghost World is a-mazing.

Word of the day Wednesday!

I like words, I like history, and I like the history of words

Tantalize
I don't think I need to explain to anyone the definition of tantalize, I'm tantalized on a daily basis by all manner of sins, but did you know ...
Taken from the name of King Tantalus of Phrygia, the mythical monarch whom upon offending the ancient Greek gods was punished by being plunged up to his chin into the water of Hades beneath low overhanging boughs of trees heavily laden with ripe fruit, but although he was hungry and thirsty he could neither drink the water nor eat the fruit as whenever he reached out for them they would retreat from his grasp, hence our use of 'tantalize'.

The lives of others

I went to school in a very small town. The children had names like Gemini, Trinity and Lasagna. The town centre housed all of lifes necessities. There was a post office, dairy, pub and taxidermist. This didnt strike me as unusual at the time. It now seems a little strange. It all came back to me this weekend when I returned home for Easter. Walking into the garage the eyes of a freshly decapitated deer head locked with mine. I jumped in surprise. Six years in the city and I had lost all country roots. The deer body hung in 2 parts from hooks suspended from the rafters. On the floor there was blood, deer skin and mess. My brother operated a mincer as my father carved with his knife. I backed out of the garage quickly. It felt like the real life set of 'House of 1000 corpses'.
